Understand why we do what we do :P

Why do men’s shirts have buttons on the right while women’s shirts have them on the left?

Buttons with just three holes.

Well this was interesting to observe and read about.. Considering from the wearer’s point of view, men’s shirts have buttons on the right, while the ones for women have them on the left.

What could be the reason for this? Could this be a way to differentiate between women and men’s clothes? Well surprisingly the reasoning is very simple 🙂

The reason is very simple. In the olden days people were considered to be primarily right-handed. Back then, men were accustomed to dress themselves, and hence the buttons were towards the right.

Women on the other hand had maids to dress them up, and this resulted in placing the buttons to the left so that it would be towards the right for the maids who were responsible for dressing them up.

Simple right?? And as with a lot of other things, this tradition has stuck on and now almost every women shirts (with buttons 😉 ) have the buttons on the left while men’s have it on the right 🙂
